Optimized to provide extremely high I/O throughput, the Sun Enterprise 5000 server provides exceptional performance for demanding network-based business applications. In fact, the GigaplaneTM, our 2.6-GB/sec system interconnect, delivers more than twice the I/O capacity of competing systems. Connected to the Gigaplane are up to 14 high-speed UltraSPARCTM processors, 14 GB of memory, and 14 I/O channels. This design, combined with the multiprocessing efficiency of the SolarisTM operating environment, means the Enterprise 5000 can support more than a thousand network clients doing heavy transaction processing, as well as data warehouses with more than a terabyte of data.
